Counterfeit Money on a Monday in Denver
Ugggh! Today I let my guard down and let somebody pay with a $100.00 bill. My Mom, Grandma, and 2 aunts were here at Fashion Denver and every one of them had a bad feeling about this person when he came in. He bought a cute outfit from one of our designers and pulled out the $100.00 bill. I couldn’t break the bill but my mom was there so she pulled cash out and we made change for him.
He left and we went on our merry way to lunch. After lunch, I went to the bank to make change for the bill and as I stepped up to the counter, looked at the bill and thought it looked a little off.
Things to look for when encountering counterfeit money:

Notice the watermark of the face on the left? It’s Lincoln, NOT Franklin!!

Notice that this is NOT centered on the back? I can’t believe I didn’t notice this!!!
I took it to my bank to make change and they put it through the money scanner and DID see the barcode in the bill but everything else they noticed was fake. They handed the $100.00 back to me and I left feeling duped.
I called the police and met with them at Fashion Denver. Sure enough, it was definitely not real. They were surprised that the bank handed it back to me as protocol is to keep it and call the police. I later went back to make sure they knew to do that.
What I learned from this…
I’m not going to break $100.00, for ANYBODY! Even if they’ve been in the shop before. I always seem to give people the benefit of the doubt but I need to learn to be a little more guarded.
Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
